Demon Dentist

Darkness had come to the town. Strange things were happening in the dead of night. Children would put a tooth under their pillow for the tooth fairy, but in the morning they would wake up to find… a dead slug; a live spider; hundreds of earwigs creeping and crawling beneath their pillow.

Evil was at work. But who or what was behind it…?

The Man with Messy Hair

Book Cover: The Man With the Messy Hair

There was a man with messy hair. He liked the mess. He didn't care.

But his messy hair soon got him into all sorts of trouble!
Zero

Zero is a big round number. When she looks at herself, she just sees a hole right in her centre. Every day she watches the other numbers line up to count: "1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 . . . !" "Those numbers have value. That's why they count," she thinks. But how could a number worth nothing become something? Zero feels empty inside. She watches One having fun with the other numbers. One has bold strokes and squared corners. Zero is big and round with no corners at all. "If I were like One, then I can count too," she thinks. So she pushes and pulls, stretches and straightens, forces and flattens herself, but in the end she realizes that she can only be Zero.
Stay where you are and then leave

Bewildered and confused, Alfie realises his father is in a hospital close by – a hospital treating soldiers with an unusual condition. Diary of a Rugby Champ

My name is Marcus Atkinson and I am nine years old.

Rugby's different from soccer and cricket.
In soccer and cricket you get hurt by accident.
In rugby, they hurt you on purpose
Tom Gates Extra special treats (not)

It's really cold outside and we're all hoping it's going to snow. Yeah! Derek and I could make a snow Rooster and have a snowball fight (look out, Delia!). Granny Mavis has started to knit me a new winter jumper, but by the looks of things I'm not sure it's going to fit…

Motiti Blue and the Oil Spill

Bilingual text in Te Reo Maori.

On 5 October 2011 a large container ship grounded on a reef off the coast of the Bay of Plenty, spilling an estimated 350 tonnes of heavy fuel oil into the ocean.

This book tells the story of a little blue penguin who was covered in oil as a result of the oil spill from the Rena shipwreck. Describes his rescue, the treatment he had at the Te Maunga Oiled Wildlife Response Unit and his release back into the wild.

Here is the incredible story of Elizabeth, a real-life elephant seal who made her home in the Avon River in the city of Christchurch, New Zealand. When Elizabeth decides to stretch out across a two-lane road, the citizens worry she might get hurt or cause traffic accidents, so a group of volunteers tows her out to sea. But Elizabeth swims all the way back to Christchurch. The volunteers catch her again and again—each time towing her farther, even hundreds of miles away—but, still, Elizabeth finds her way back home.
