It’s a week of rugby mania books, gearing up for the start of the world cup. Come and check them out, a great read for everyone…

Enjoy your week!

When I grow up, I’m going to play for… the ALL BLACKS

Jack imagines what it would be like to step out of the tunnel: banners ripple through the air, the crowd chants his name. No doubt about it, this little All Blacks fan is heading for the big time, because when he grows up, he wants to be an All Black.
Diary of a Rugby Champ

My name is Marcus Atkinson and I am nine years old.
Dad's totally lost it! He wants me to play rugby.
Rugby's different from soccer and cricket.
In soccer and cricket you get hurt by accident.
In rugby, they hurt you on purpose
Tom Gates Extra special treats (not)

It's really cold outside and we're all hoping it's going to snow. Yeah! Derek and I could make a snow Rooster and have a snowball fight (look out, Delia!). Granny Mavis has started to knit me a new winter jumper, but by the looks of things I'm not sure it's going to fit…

An exciting week ahead…
Firstly, we welcome Grandparents and friends to our school on Thursday.
Then, let the bidding begin, in our Art Auction on Friday!

Great reads in the library, come and check them out!

Motiti Blue and the Oil Spill

Bilingual text in Te Reo Maori.

On 5 October 2011 a large container ship grounded on a reef off the coast of the Bay of Plenty, spilling an estimated 350 tonnes of heavy fuel oil into the ocean.

The impact was devastating, not only for the people of the area, but for the many thousands of birds and sea creatures who were covered in the toxic oil.
This book tells the story of a little blue penguin who was covered in oil as a result of the oil spill from the Rena shipwreck. Describes his rescue, the treatment he had at the Te Maunga Oiled Wildlife Response Unit and his release back into the wild.
Elizabeth, Queen of the Seas

An inspiring story of an elephant seal who knew exactly where she belonged.

Here is the incredible story of Elizabeth, a real-life elephant seal who made her home in the Avon River in the city of Christchurch, New Zealand. When Elizabeth decides to stretch out across a two-lane road, the citizens worry she might get hurt or cause traffic accidents, so a group of volunteers tows her out to sea. But Elizabeth swims all the way back to Christchurch. The volunteers catch her again and again—each time towing her farther, even hundreds of miles away—but, still, Elizabeth finds her way back home.
Saint Grandma

The story of Suzanne Aubert

The story of Suzanne Aubert. Suzanne was born in 1835 in a town near Lyon in France. When she was a very young woman her parents arranged her marriage, but Suzanne refused to be wed. Instead, she wanted to serve God.

A simple retelling of the life story of Suzanne Aubert, the founder of the Sisters of Compassion. Aubert, known by children as 'Grandma', spent her life caring for the dispossessed, and working with Māori at the Hiruharama community along the Whanganui River.
